New Feature: Location Verification
Ensure attendees are physically present at your event with GPS-based location verification, now available on the Professional plan.
We're thrilled to introduce Location Verification for EntriScan events.
With this feature, you can require attendees to be within a defined distance of your event venue before they can check in. No more remote check-ins or buddy punching. Only people who are genuinely on site can mark themselves present.
What's new
- Per-event location requirement: enable location verification individually for each event.
- Interactive map: drop a pin directly on your venue using the map in the event form, or search by address.
- Configurable radius: set the check-in radius (default: 100 meters) to match your venue size.
- Clear attendee feedback: if an attendee is too far away, the check-in page explains why and asks them to move closer.
How it works
When location verification is enabled for an event, the check-in page requests the attendee's GPS coordinates at the moment of check-in. Those coordinates are compared against the venue pin you set. If the attendee is within your chosen radius, check-in proceeds normally. If they're outside the boundary, they see a friendly message explaining they need to be at the venue.
This check happens client-side (in the browser) at check-in time. No continuous tracking is performed, and coordinates are not stored after the distance check.
Setting it up
- Open or create an event in your dashboard.
- In the event settings, enable Location verification.
- An interactive map will appear. Search for your venue address or drag the map pin to the exact location.
- Adjust the radius slider if needed. Use a smaller radius for a single room and a larger one for an outdoor space.
- Save the event. Location verification is now active for all future check-ins on this event.
What attendees experience
When an attendee opens the check-in page, their browser will prompt them to allow location access. This is a standard browser permission. Attendees can tap Allow. If they deny the permission, check-in will be blocked and they'll see a message asking them to enable location access in their browser settings.
Attendees who are at the venue will pass automatically and check in as usual. Those who are outside the radius will see a message letting them know they need to be physically present.
Privacy
Location data is used only at the moment of check-in to verify proximity. The coordinates are checked against your venue pin and then discarded. They are not stored in EntriScan's database or shared with third parties.
